The annual Fireman's Ball is Saturday evening, May 28 at the Ocracoke Community Center. Yesterday someone new to the island said she wanted to attend, but was concerned she didn't have anything fancy to wear. It's not that kind of a ball! More of a come as you are event. Bring some $ to donate for a plate of food and to bid in the auction, which is almost as fun as the dancing and live music.
The Ocracoke Fire Protection Association doesn't levy any fees on property owners on the island, so supporting the all-volunteer organization at fundraising events is crucial if you want someone to come douse your burning house.
