Welcome to America

Yesterday I was in Morehead City with an Ocracoke friend, car shopping. We also went to Wal-Mart. An enormous Wal-Mart, the kind with a grocery store. The kind of store that's so big you end up calling each other. We actually had three separate phone conversations while in the store, acres of plastic merchandise separating us. Being from Ocracoke, huge stores are both thrilling and mystifying. What does it cost to air condition that place? Who buys CD's at Wal-Mart? What marketing genius could make me want yet another beach towel?

I bought a stand up fan, a summer's supply of toilet paper, and pop tarts. Then, because there is still a limited selection on Ocracoke, I ran errands at the liquor store. News flash: the genial people at the ABC in Morehead bat not an eye when you purchase what struck me as a huge amount of vodka by an array of distillers. Now that was fun.

Hey Jenny! Just found you here. Your writing makes me smile! Summer is in full force here in TX. Sounds like it is there as well. FWIW, I HATE the monster WalMart that is near my house. IF I go there, I go to the smaller version a few miles away.

Where is the picture in your profile from??? How's WOVV coming? Be sure to write a blog when it o-fish-ally goes on the air!

See ya in October...

Hi Tom,

WOVV is on the air, though we are still tweaking some engineering and in our "trial" phase with the FCA. We're raising money to pay a station manager with the idea that staff lends stablility and continuity. It is so fun to hear people we know on the radio. Is one of your sound bites on there? Tomorrow we'll join the parade with our radio flyer float.

You're my first commentor (besides Jennifer and my Mom!). thanks for writing! (the photo is a hot day at Angkor Wat--my boyfriend bought the fan from one of the many aggressive child vendors).

I hope your summer is great. Keep me posted how it's going. We'll have iced tea and a platter waiting for you in October.

Jenny
